Cubic Yards Calculator
Are you wondering how much material you need to order? Use the calculator below!
Math Class Is In Session! Often we are asked questions like: “How much topsoil so I need?””How much does a yard of gravel cover?”
In short, 1 cubic yard covers 27 square feet at 12″ depth, and 81 square feet at 4″ depth
For a more detailed number, we will use this calculation:
Length (Feet) X Width (Feet) X Depth (Inches) / 327
Example 1: You have a 20 X 40 area of lawn that you want to apply 4 inches of top soil to, the calculation is as follows.
20 feet X 40 feet X 4 inches deep = 32003200 / 327 = 9.78 cubic yards.
Example 2: You have 3 areas to add 3 inches of D-1 to. One area is 10′ X 12′, one 14′ X 25′, and one is a 17′ diameter circle.
We have: 10 X 12 X 3 = 36014 X 25 X 3 = 1050And, for simple math, a circle is 78.5% of a square, so we have 17 X 17 X 3 = 867867 – 21.5% =680
680+360+1050=2090
2090 divided by 327 = 6.39 yards.Boom! Too Easy!
